Ten behoeve van de interne communicatie en versterking van de identiteit heeft Studio Breedbeeld (van beehives netwerk) een website opgeleverd met een Canon van de Rabobank. Aan mij de opdracht om een deel van de interface in Flash te bouwen om het geheel net iets smeuïger te maken.

Dze mini interface kan dynamisch gevuld worden m.b.v. het achterliggende CMS.

My tasks in this project was to go from a static photoshop briefing to an interactive and engaging website.

It has a custom build CMS with which news and the about sections can be modified. The background images can be easily be changed and a meganism to rotate quotes has been implemented.

All the presented work comes from a different project website I did for W+K last year.

Implementation was done with Flex (frontend) and Zend + Doctrine (backend). Interesting features

rawChildren gives access to all of the display objects of a flex container. Items in the rawChildren only need to extend DisplayObject (as familiar with the display list) and do not have to implement the IUIComponent interface as expected in Flex…

In collaboration with Studio GloriusvandeVen a new site for the beehives has been developed. My responsibility was the implementation of the frontend design and  little interaction design.

“Phat Elephant is a DJ booking agency based in Amsterdam, specialized in high quality electronic music DJ’s from around the globe”.

A nice random window filling video is playing in the background off a very simple website. Basically a list of represented DJ’s, a form to book a DJ and an agenda, implemented in Flash. Flex 3 was used to create the simple backend CMS. This tied together by ZEND and AMF.

The visual design was done by Studio Mingus. I won’t take credit for the interaction design because I don’t like the way the list scrolls upon mouse movement.

Yeah! An other good day…

zillizi creates the ultimate solution for repairing mouse wheel support for flash/flex browser based projects.

Why? Well, Flash Player 10 came and CS4 is here too.., but unfortunately still no complete and correct support for the mouse wheel. OS X people will know this: The mouse wheel just doesn’t work on a mac. What many people don’t know is that it also doesn’t work on Safari on a PC. To add to this confusion, when you enter fullscreen mode, it DOES work. Even on systems where the mouse wheel is supported we dare to say that its behavior is little awkward.

So this component does two things. First, it enables the mouse wheel for OS X plus Safari on PC. Secondly it corrects strange usability behavior that occurs when you have HTML content that is higher then the window height (the vertical scollbar is visible in the HTML window).

Above all the component is very very simple to use. Drop it in your project (flash, flex or plain actionscript), add one line of code and forget about it. Really… forget about it.

This is obligatory stuff for every UI Designer who is developing Flash or Flex projects for the web.

Each company is offered a relatively cheap place to start it’s business, a network, plus the occasional for-profit project. In return it is expected to invest a minimum of 2 hours per week in social non-profit projects. I think this interesting and reasonable and am curious what collaborations will emerge from this.

Hired by staat,… I was involved in consulting, designing and implementing major parts of their website several years ago. At that time I really would have liked to have made this site a bit more interactive, but it is nice to see that this is happening now…

Please note that my effort this time was limited to the technical implementation of the right side column, which has received a minor visual and interactive update (oh, btw actionscript 2 ‘me no like’).
